Taraba State is located in the northeastern part of Nigeria, with its capital being Jalingo. Known as the "Nature's Gift to the Nation," Taraba is blessed with diverse landscapes, including mountains, rivers, and forests. It is bordered by Adamawa to the north, Benue to the west, Plateau to the northwest, Cross River to the south, and Gombe to the east.
The state is predominantly inhabited by ethnic groups such as the Jukun, Chamba, Fulani, Mumuye, and Ngas, among others. The majority of the people in Taraba practice Islam and Christianity, with many communities coexisting peacefully.
Taraba State is rich in natural resources, including minerals, timber, and agricultural products. The state's economy is largely based on farming, with crops like cassava, maize, yams, and rice being widely cultivated. The Taraba River and its tributaries provide water for irrigation and support the fishing industry.
The state was created in 1991 from the former Gongola State. It is home to several tourist attractions, including the Yankari National Park, a wildlife sanctuary known for its biodiversity, and the Gashaka-Gumti National Park, which is the largest national park in Nigeria.
Taraba's natural beauty and cultural diversity make it an important part of Nigeria's heritage. The state has a strategic position for regional trade, especially with neighboring countries like Cameroon to the east.
