Rivers State is one of Nigeria’s 36 states, with Port Harcourt as its capital.
It shares borders with the Atlantic Ocean to the south, Imo, Abia, and Anambra States to the north, Akwa Ibom to the east, and Bayelsa and Delta States to the west.

The state gets its name from the many rivers within its borders.
Historically, it was part of the Oil Rivers Protectorate (1885–1893) before merging into the Niger Coast Protectorate, and later the colony of Southern Nigeria in 1900.
Rivers State boasts one of the largest economies in Nigeria, driven largely by its oil industry.
It is home to two major refineries, seaports, airports, and several industrial zones, especially in Port Harcourt.
