Gombe State, often referred to as the "Jewel in the Savannah", is one of Nigeria’s northeastern states. It was officially carved out of Bauchi State on October 1, 1996. Its capital city, also named Gombe, serves as the state’s political, cultural, and economic center.

Covering a landmass of approximately 20,265 square kilometers, Gombe shares borders with Borno to the east, Yobe to the north, Adamawa and Taraba to the south, and Bauchi to the west. The population is estimated at over 3 million people as of the most recent projections.

The state is ethnically diverse, home to more than a dozen ethnic communities including the Tangale, Tera, Waja, Fulani, Kanuri, Bolewa, Hausa, Jukun, Tula, Cham, Kamo (Awak), Lunguda, and Dadiya among others. While these groups speak a variety of native languages, Hausa serves as the lingua franca for commerce and social interaction.

Gombe enjoys a unique ecological advantage with its blend of savannah and forest vegetation, making it suitable for both livestock and crop farming. Key crops include maize, sorghum, millet, rice, and groundnuts. The state also has untapped deposits of mineral resources such as gypsum, limestone, and uranium.

In terms of education, Gombe is home to institutions like Gombe State University, the Federal University of Kashere, and several colleges of education and technical schools. The state also has notable tourist destinations like the Bima Hills, Tula Battlefield, and the Dadin Kowa Dam, which supports irrigation, fishing, and hydroelectric power supply.
